What is the secret to traveling in Japan?
Japanese people are very detail oriented and take great pride in their specialties that includes seasonal foods, festivals, etc... I highly recommend oscillating your time between high paced Big Cities and temples and super remote countryside hot springs. A common misconception about Japan is that cities with Temples and Shrines; like Kyoto and Nara will be mellow and peaceful however they are very busy with tourists including Japanese tourists whom are traveling domestically. So, get out in the countryside for a couple days and put a robe on, turn off your cellphone and spend a couple days rejuvenating by dipping in Onsens, drinking sake, and eating traditional and seasonal foods.
About the tour guide (Chris Muccio):
Chris has been guiding Japanese tourists on Oahu, Hawaii since June 2006. He owns and operates Anaba Hawaii and Hi Private Tours a boutique tour company that specializes in groups under 10 and averages over 1000 people per year. Every year in May and Sept Chris travels to Japan to enjoy food, city life, countryside, onsens, etc...
Why Last 2 weeks of May and Sept?
Because the weather is exactly like Hawaii, shorts and T-shirt. Not too hot not too cold. Also, the first 2 weeks of May is Golden Week that is when every Japanese person and their mother are off work and are traveling around Japan domestically. The hotel prices are triple and lines to Temples and Shrines are double. Also, June is rainy season and when I mean rainy, i dont mean Hawaiian showers that disappear after 5 min. It pours... like walking 3 steps to your car and you are completely soaked.
October is a season called Koyo (Autumn) and the leaves start to change color and Japanese domestic travelers significantly increase which makes hotel prices and long lines double.
